Anti-Growth?

 Lots of posts on Social Media about growth this morning after Liz Truss’ speech and understandably so.

I’m not convinced that economic growth is something to be aimed at.  This planet has finite resources that increasing growth will use more quickly, and economic growth often goes hand in hand with pollution and climate change.

What we actually need is a fair sharing of the resources we already have, and equal slices of the economic pie for all instead of huge slices for some and crumbs for others. We don’t need a bigger pie, just equal staring of the existing pie because there is already enough for all. 

What we do need is growth in renewable energy use, growth in love and fairness and justice, growth in goodness and wisdom, growth in equality and peace. That’s the kind of growth I can get behind.
